Creative Maternity Photo Shoot Ideas

As a Minneapolis Maternity Photographer, I love highlighting the beauty of expecting mothers across the Twin Cities through stunning photography. After a client completes their booking information form, they have a pre-session consultation with me in order to discuss their vision for their photographs. Every maternity portrait session is unique. Some sessions include both mom and dad, others include baby’s older brothers and sisters, while some maternity photo shoots are for moms alone. In all of these scenarios, women use a maternity photo shoot as a means to commemorate their journey to motherhood and their intimate relationship with their baby before baby even arrives. It is a special moment where they can focus on arrival of their baby, feel beautiful about their pregnant bodies, and just rest in what is a very fleeting moment in time.

Artistic Maternity Photo Sessions That Reflect Your Story

For a recent maternity session, I worked with a mom who wanted intimate photos of her pregnancy in order to commemorate the soon to be arrival of her little girl. This mom’s session was very special because she received a henna tatoo that covered her entire baby bump in an incredibly beautiful way. In order to highlight the beauty of the henna, I visited the talented florists at Lilia Flower Boutique in Excelsior, MN to purchase unique flowers and plants which complimented the color of the henna. This session was at my Minneapolis Studio on a cloudy Minnesota winter day. In order to create some warmth in the studio, I incorporated candles and cozy blankets. I wanted the studio space to allow this momma to feel peaceful and reflective.

How to Help Women Relax During Their Maternity Photo Session

I approach these sessions in a way which allows moms to relax. Most people feel awkward or unnatural in front of the camera when forced to pose. By incorporating music, soft light, cozy surroundings, and soft fabrics, moms are allowed to feel at home and relax. I keep the tone light and conversational so that you can just be yourself and not feel like you have to perform in any way. I will then guide you throughout by asking you questions which lead you to think about your baby, how you are feeling, so that you can be reflective, or, better yet simply laugh! This is a joyous time, a fleeting time in your life and I want you to enjoy every moment!

Maternity sessions alone are a wonderful way to commemorate your child’s “beginnings.” Better yet, choose a Newborn Milestone Collection with a Maternity Session Add-On an preserve your baby’s story from the very beginning through their first steps! Contact me for details!
